Adopt A School - Morrumbene

Schools are an integral part of any community. Teachers shape our children and the learners are our future. Under the colonial regime, educational opportunities for black Mozambicans were limited, and 93% of that population was illiterate. In fact, most of today's political leaders were educated in missionary schools. After independence, the government placed a high priority on expanding education, which reduced the illiteracy rate to about two-thirds as primary school enrollment increased. Unfortunately, in recent years school construction and teacher training enrollments have not kept up with population increases. With post-war enrollments reaching all-time highs, the quality of education has suffered.

In the Morrumbeni school we found teachers and children eager to teach and be taught, but the system has failed them. There are no extramural activities as no funds are available and the classrooms are equipped with 1 desk and a blackboard most of the time. The buildings are in need of a major makeover and access to learning tools is a huge problem. No computer classroom exists and with temperatures that soar to 95-100 degrees making learning difficult. The children are about education and want to be the best they can be. All they need is a helping hand.

Can you adopt this village by helping to upgrade the school, providing classroom supplies, furniture, computers and giving a child the opportunity to learn?

I wish to adopt this village and help upgrade the school system.
