Book Guidelines - One Million Books For Children in Africa

Millions of children do not have any books!

Why Have Guidelines?
Because we want to be sure that the books we send to Sierra Leone are what the young people really want and need. The types of books are important. The condition of the books is also important.  This may be the only "library" or book collection that some children / schools will have.

TYPES OF BOOKS REQUIRED

THE CONDITION OF THE BOOKS

CONTENTS

  • Pre-reading material
    'Picture and a word'
  • Easy Readers
  • Large print and Big Books

  • Factual books
  • Reading scheme books
  • Dictionaries
    especially illustrated ones

Books should be in good condition and attractive.

Used books are fine, as long as they are in very good condition.

The books must be worth shipping thousands of miles!

Factual books and stories should be up-to-date, well illustrated, and accurate.

Factual books and storybooks should not be so culturally specific that they are inappropriate for African children.
