The Tailoring Trainees are Putting their New Skills to Good Use

Learning a new skill or even mastering an old skill is challenging, but thanks to your support, the tailoring trainees are working diligently on mastering tailoring.  The tailoring trainees were so excited to show what they have learned in class and put their lessons to good use.   Several of the trainees made Cecelia, one of the repeat visitors they like very much, an African dress.  In the pictures below, you can see Cecelia in her new dress posing with the tailoring trainees.

Closer to Getting the Bus

Through your support, we have moved one step closer to purchasing a bus for the Dream Home. At this point, we have not raised adequate funds to get a bus, but every bit helps us get closer to the goal. We plan to continue working to raise the necessary funds to assist in the purchase of a 25-30 seat bus for the Dream Home. So if you have any suggestions on what we could do - please do not hesitate to get in touch. More than ever - we realize that we need a bus their ongoing travel needs. In order for the Dream Home children to travel anywhere as a group, a bus must be rented. The involved costs and logistics have limited our group activities.  The purchase of a bus will make travel so much easier and safer - enabling us to experience additional and richer extra-curricular activities together - such as going on field trips etc. Thank you again for your support. We couldn't do what we do without you!

Scholarships Given in Sierra Leone

Scholarships were given out at Freetown Primary and secondary schools. Both girls and boys received scholarships from Nursery school through 12th grade.  Ms. Joanne distributed the scholarships to the children and parents.  She said in her opening remarks that the scholarship beneficiaries needed to work hard in school.  She continued that as young people they are filled with talents, dreams and aspiration and the only hope they have in achieving those dreams is to obtain education.  The children were all very appreciative of the scholarship and promised to work hard in their studies.

Your generous support is helping the FAWE girls get the computer training hours that they need. Your donations help cover the cost of power / electricity and a replacement memory module for one of the computers.

Our support of this computer lab is helping these girls acquire the essential computer skills needed for success in today's computer-driven society. Most of the girls at the FAWE School come from disadvantaged homes that do not have computers.

Consequently, the stove is already helping to save money, as it uses less coal. The new stove also reduces air pollution, providing a much safer and cleaner cooking environment. We greatly appreciate your helping us provide the new stove for the Dream Home and look forward to your continued support toward the Dream Home needs.  Thank you for being a part of our "village" - that is helping raise 22 Ebola orphans.  We couldn't do it without you!

Site Visit By Sylvester - Discussions With Realtor

At the end of July, Sylvester made a 2 week project visit to Sierra Leone.  The Dream Home was one of the top reasons for his trip.

He reports on his trip as follows:

"The trip provided me with the opportunity to observe, learn, interact and evaluate. I spent quality time with the Dream Home kids as a group and also on a one-to-one basis. I interacted with each of the kids individually. I wanted to understand their fears and dreams.  I wanted to learn more about the challenges that they are facing. I wanted to see what they are experiencing at the home.

Providing Bed Nets to Families in Need

We appreciate your support that has enabled us to provide more families with bed nets. Thanks to your support, ten kids have received mosquito nets and are now sleeping well at night, free from mosquito bites and malaria.

One of the recent beneficiaries pictured in this report, is a boy who lives in the Goderich community.  Goderich is a suburb of Freetown and a fishing town.  Located on the coast / Atlantic Ocean, it receives a large amount of rainfall each year. This rainfall often accumulates in pools and results in an increase in malaria.
