Girl Effect Challenge FAQs

What is the Girl Effect:
The Girl Effect is a campaign that harnesses the unique potential of adolescent girls to end poverty for themselves and the world.   Almost 6,000 donors have already given over $600,000 to the Girl Effect Fund, which currently supports eight GlobalGiving projectsThis is our opportunity to get Educate African Girls / Develop Africa included in the Girl Effect Fund.

Girl Effect - Globalgiving challenge

What is the Girl Effect GlobalGiving Challenge?
The Girl Effect Fund features innovative projects addressing the challenges adolescent girls are facing around the world.  GlobalGiving, in partnership with the Nike Foundation, will host the Girl Effect Challenge to select 12 organizations to be included in the Girl Effect Fund for one year.   Organizations featured will receive donations through the Girl Effect Funds (last year each organization received over $25,000 from the Girl Effect Fund!).  This practically guarantees that EAG / DA will receive this amount over the next year.

When Does The Challenge Take Place?
The Girl Effect Challenge will take place from October 15 to November 15.  During this Challenge we have a month to raise funds and the top six organizations with the most unique donors will be included in the Girl Effect Fund for a full year.  This means the focus is on the number of individual donors and not the amount.
Online donations will be accepted from October 15, 2011 (00:00 hrs EDT) through November 15, 2011 (23:59 hrs EDT). Online donations are considered unique if they are made from separate email addresses. The same credit card may be used for multiple online donations. Please note that GlobalGiving will be moderating this in the background and reserves the right to disqualify any attempts of misconduct.

Is The Challenge The Only Way to Be Admitted?
No, 6 additional organizations will be selected by a Girl Effect expert panel, giving preference to compelling projects that are particularly innovative.   Projects will be chosen based upon how they incorporate innovation into their approach, curriculum, and work, as well as how they effect positive change for marginalized adolescent girls.

How Much of The Funds Donated Through This Challenge Will Go To EAG / DA?
Transaction fee for donations: GlobalGiving retains a 15% fulfillment fee on donations but works to keep the fees you pay as low as possible while providing you great services and resources. The 15% fee covers all transactional fees such as credit card charges, as well as helps cover the costs GlobalGiving incurs to promote organizations and projects, provide them with fundraising training and tools, and maintain and improve our online technology in order to keep connecting you with new donors.

With our add-on option, GlobalGiving also offers the donor the opportunity to make an additional donation to cover GlobalGiving’s fulfillment fees so that projects receive 100% of the donations intended for them.
