  • Millions of children  do not have any books. On average, children in Africa have 0-1 age appropriate books in their homes. Many schools do not have a school library.
  • The home environment -specifically the availability of reading material is a stronger predictor of later academic achievement than socio-economic status.
  • Inability to read is linked to poverty, unemployment and crime
    Access to printed materials has been found to be on the critical variables affecting reading acquisition.
