A visit was made to the Develop Africa’s Empowerment & Training Center and Door of Hope in Wellington on July 16th 2012. Develop Africa’s Empowerment and Training Center at Door of Hope is a multi-purpose building / facility which on completion will include a vocational skills training school, a computer lab and other relevant facilities. Dr. Jasmine Renner gave a brief talk to the vocational skills training students, children of Door of Hope, teachers and staff. She encouraged them to be diligent in their business, to think creatively and to press to new heights of excellence in vocational and skills training. The children of Door of Hope and students of the vocational skills center were very excited to receive Dr. Jasmine Renner and displayed banners welcoming her and announcing their appreciation for all Develop Africa has invested into the community. Photos below.
The welcome program was very well organized with a rich menu which included poems, recitations on hope, passion, excellence and leadership by students and staff, a dance performance by boys and girls and an overall display of the talents and human capital investment found in the Wellington community.
Students from the vocational skills center also filed in and showed Dr. Renner samples of their latest work and creations using the center which included well-tailored made clothes and other accessory items.
Joshua Sandy, Director of Door of Hope also gave a brief talk introducing Dr. Renner and encouraging the community to press on to new heights in creative and forward thinking leadership.
A very robust, and exciting environment permeated the whole visit with children and youth vibrantly displaying their talents and even more so grateful for the work Develop Africa Inc. its partners, sponsors and friends are doing in improving their community.
The climax of the visit was the display of multiple intelligences and talents by all students and the gathering of community in Wellington. The visit ended on a high note of grateful and thankfulness for all we continue to do in the community. The multipurpose empowerment center is very near completion and we hope to finish construction in the next 6 months. In the meanwhile, students continue to make use of the vocational training center.
Thank you partners, sponsors friends and well-wishers for making all of this possible. Very special thanks to Choose a Need and GlobalGiving.
