Computers For Africa Project

African children desperately need computers. 

There are thousands and thousands of schools in Africa

which do not have a single computer. 

This is an important project for the children, youth and future of Africa. The fact that children do not have access to this vital technology means that the technology gap and other inequalities will continue to widen.  Many studies have confirmed that the use of computers can enhance the learning of children.  Access to this important resource will enhance the education and development of african children.  Additionally they will be better prepared to contribute to the development of their countries.  This project will help to level the playing field, giving them access to better resources.

This project contributes to closing the technology gap by providing a free computer suite / lab (25 to 40 computers) to schools in Africa.  The project involves the following:

1.  Set up a computer suite / lab in a school.  Networked lab will include internet connectivity.

2.  Train teachers in the use of the facilities / equipment. 

3.  Provide the technological and financial support to upkeep equipment and internet connectivity.  The project will need a computer expert / teacher to provide training and on-going support.  This will help to maximize the benefit of these computer labs. This will be an on-going expense.

We specifically need your help with the following:

1.  Donate your computer.  We are interested all type of computers particularly the folllowing:

• Pentium 500 or similar AMD / Celeron etc. or higher with at least 128 MB of Ram / Memory. 
• Apple G4 or higher
• All operating systems Windows 98, 2000 or XP, Linux, Ubuntu and other distributions etc
