World Malaria Day- "Zero malaria starts with me"

World Malaria Day is April 25 and this year's theme is "Zero malaria starts with me.” Our goal is to make sure every individual and family in Freetown has a bed net to prevent malaria.  Long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) are an effective ongoing source of protection to prevent Malaria by protecting families while they sleep at night. We are so thankful for your support that provides these long-lasting insecticide-treated bed nets (ITNs) to families and individuals, like Alfred & Bintu, in Freetown.

Bed Nets are Protecting Future Leaders from Malaria

Your continued support is greatly appreciated in providing long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) to families and individuals in Freetown.  Because of the bed nets they received, children like Esther and Valentine pictured here can now focus on their education and futures and not on malaria.

New Bed Nets Distributed in Sierra Leone

We greatly appreciate your support that has provided long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) to families and individuals in Freetown. Recently ten treated insecticides mosquito nets were distributed to children in Freetown, including to Ibrahim. Ibrahim also tells us in this short video clip, how thankful he is for the mosquito net because it will protect him from getting infected by the malaria disease by preventing mosquito bites while he sleeps.

In his video he says

No More Malaria -Sustainable Development Goal-Good Health & Well-Being

Good health and well-being is the third Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) and one of the focuses within that SDG is preventing Malaria.  Long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) that are being provided to families in Freetown are an effective ongoing source of protection to prevent Malaria by protecting families while they sleep at night.    We appreciate your support that has provided long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) to families and individuals, like Mary and Fatmata, in Freetown.

Why Nets are Important = Prevention is Better than Cure

We appreciate your continued support that is providing long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) to families and individuals, like Francess, in Sierra Leone. Bed nets are an effective way to protect families while they sleep at night from Malaria.

Bed Nets are Protecting Families in Sierra Leone from Malaria

We appreciate your support that is providing long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) to families and individuals, like Grace, in Sierra Leone. The WHO World Malaria 2018 Report states

In 2017, there were an estimated 435,000 deaths from malaria globally, compared with 451, 000 estimated deaths in 2016, and 607,000 in 2010.  The WHO African Region accounted for 93% of all malaria deaths in 2017.

No More Mosquitos at Night

Thanks to your ongoing support we recently provided 30-bed nets to families in Sierra Leone that were directly impacted by the flood and mudslide disaster in 2017.   The long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) they received are keeping the mosquitos away at night while they sleep.  The nets have been treated with safe, residual insecticide that blocks, kills and repels mosquitoes. Pictured here is Isata receiving her new bed net.

Bed Nets are Saving Lives

We greatly appreciate your continued support that provided 50-bed nets to students attending the Creating Pathways Center,  which is made up of mostly young, single moms or pregnant unwed young women who are not allowed to return to regular school.  The long-lasting insecticide-treated net (ITNs) they received is one of the main prevention measures that is used to prevent malaria. The nets have been treated with safe, residual insecticide that blocks, kills and repels mosquitoes.

Bed Nets are Protecting Cameroon Students from Malaria

We are grateful for your support that helped provide long-lasting insecticide-treated nets to children in Cameroon.  Sleeping under a net is the most cost-effective way to prevent malaria, which is the most prevalent disease in Africa, especially in Cameroon.
