Kamawornie - Making a Difference Where It's Most Needed

There are 2 schools of thought regarding choosing the location of charitable interventions. Some recommend focusing on urban areas because of the population density.  The urban municipalities frequently end up receiving the lion's share of support.  The rural areas, on the other hand, are often neglected and receive little to no support.

One of the outcomes of underdevelopment of the rural areas is that the youths often end up leaving the rural areas for the urban areas - due to a lack of training and job opportunities. The end result of this is the overpopulation of urban regions.

Develop Africa has been active in the Kamawornie rural community for several years - initially starting with scholarship funds.  Our intervention has broadened over the years to include the following:

  1. Books and school supplies
  2. Solar lights
  3. School benches
  4. Teacher training scholarships
  5. Shoes/sandals
  6. Student tuition scholarships

Make a Difference Today: Donate to the Year of the Pencil Campaign

On November 20th, this movement placed over 100,000 pencils into the hands

of children across Sierra Leone in 20 schools.

Each pencil tells a story — of hope, opportunity, and possibility.

Education is more than lessons — it’s liberation.

Every $25 helps children write their dreams.
