Magbaikoli Village Celebrates Opening of New Junior Secondary School
The community of Magbaikoli Village in Sierra Leone recently celebrated a major milestone with the official opening of a new Junior Secondary School and the extension of its Primary School facilities.
The event, held on May 14, 2026, brought together community leaders, education officials, parents, teachers, students, and development partners to mark a significant step forward in expanding access to education for children in the area.
For many years, children in Magbaikoli faced long and difficult journeys to attend school. Many students had to travel several miles each day and cross a dangerous river in order to access secondary education. These challenges contributed to absenteeism, school dropouts, and limited educational opportunities for young people in the community.
The newly completed school facilities will help address these barriers by bringing education closer to home and creating a safer learning environment for students.
This initiative is a project of the Pa Karim Memorial Foundation, implemented in partnership with Develop Africa. Working closely with community leaders and stakeholders, the project was designed to improve access to quality education and create greater opportunities for children and families in Magbaikoli.
A highlight of the celebration was the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, which symbolized the beginning of a new chapter for education in the community. Guests toured the new facilities, viewed the expanded classrooms, and joined community members in celebrating the achievement.
During the event, speakers reflected on the journey that led to the completion of the project and the impact it is expected to have on future generations. Representatives emphasized that students will no longer face the same challenges of traveling long distances to attend school and will now have improved access to learning opportunities within their own community.
The ceremony also included the symbolic turning of the soil for a proposed Senior Secondary School project. This next phase reflects a continued commitment to strengthening educational opportunities and supporting long-term community development in Magbaikoli.
Develop Africa extends its appreciation to all partners, donors, and supporters who contributed to making this achievement possible.
We offer special thanks to Endeavour for its partnership and generous investment in the community. Through its continued support, Endeavour has played an important role in helping expand educational opportunities and improve outcomes for children and families.
The opening of the new Junior Secondary School represents more than the completion of a building. It represents hope, opportunity, and a shared commitment to ensuring that every child has access to education and the chance to build a brighter future.
