Mentees Talk About Financial Literacy

Thanks in part to your generosity, students in Sierra Leone are gaining life-changing skills that will shape their futures. Recently, Develop Africa hosted a financial literacy mentoring session led via Zoom by Susan, a Develop Africa board member in the USA. The session covered essential topics like budgeting, saving, investing, and financial planning.

  • Marian said she learned the importance of managing income and expenses: “To be a millionaire, you need to know how to manage your budget; your expenses should not exceed your income.”

  • Frederick was inspired by the discussion on entrepreneurship: “Madam Susan explained how microfinance companies can help young entrepreneurs get started with lower interest loans.”

  • Mishael learned about handling setbacks: “She taught us how to start up a business and how to deal with financial challenges.”

  • Agnes and Musa both shared that they now understand how to save wisely instead of misusing money.

  • Joy, Yealie, and Jane highlighted lessons on debt management and budgeting for the future.

  • Koterah summed it up beautifully: “I have learned how best I can invest what I earn and use my money in a beneficial way.”

These voices show just how impactful mentoring can be. Your support not only provides education—it’s empowering young people with tools to become financially independent and resilient.

This mentoring session was possible because of donors like you. By supporting programs like this, you’re investing in tomorrow’s leaders and helping them make smart choices that will last a lifetime.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Together, we’re equipping young people in Sierra Leone with the skills they need to thrive.

On November 20th, this movement placed over 100,000 pencils into the hands

of children across Sierra Leone in 20 schools.

Each pencil tells a story — of hope, opportunity, and possibility.

Education is more than lessons — it’s liberation.
