New Keyboards Improve Learning at the FAWE Computer Lab
Access to the right tools can make a meaningful difference in how students learn and develop new skills. At the FAWE School computer lab in Sierra Leone, students recently received an important upgrade that is already improving their learning experience.
Thanks to the generous support of Ubuntu for Humanity, the computer lab has received funding to replace faulty keyboards with new, fully functioning ones. This support ensures that students can participate more effectively in computer training and practice essential digital skills.
Supporting a Better Learning Environment

For students learning computer skills, reliable equipment is critical. When keyboards stop working properly, it can interrupt lessons and limit students’ ability to practice what they are learning.
With the new keyboards now installed, the computers in the lab are fully usable again. Students can type more easily, complete assignments, and gain confidence as they develop their digital skills.
Benedict, the liaison officer at the FAWE School in Sierra Leone, expressed his gratitude for the support:
“I want to say a big thank you to Ubuntu for Humanity in a very special way for providing us the funds to replace these faulty keyboards with workable ones that are now functioning in our computer laboratory.”
The new keyboards have already made a noticeable difference for the students who use the lab regularly.
Helping Students Build Digital Skills

Learning to use computers is an important step for many young people. It opens the door to educational opportunities, improves academic performance, and prepares students for a future where digital literacy is increasingly essential.
For students like Hawa, having working equipment means she can now practice typing and improve her computer skills during lab sessions.
Hawa shared her appreciation for the support:
“Thank you Ubuntu for Humanity for providing us these new keyboards. Now I can use them to type.”
Simple improvements like this help students move forward in their learning journey and gain skills that will benefit them long after they leave the classroom.
