SLINT Tech Expo Presentation - Transforming Futures: Develop Africa's Mission in Digital Empowerment

At SLINT TECH EXPO 2025, Develop Africa's video presentation and Sylvester Renner (President, Develop Africa), highlighted Develop Africa's impactful efforts to empower youth in West Africa through education and technology.

The presentation underscored digital literacy's vital role in bridging socio-economic divides and enhancing opportunities.

The Digital Divide and Develop Africa's Response

In many African regions, technological access remains scarce. Develop Africa is addressing this gap by providing devices and comprehensive training programs. We believe technology is not just a tool—it’s a lifeline.

Over 3,000 students have completed our 4-month digital literacy programs, gaining proficiency in essential software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Empowerment through Education

Our approach goes beyond skills training. We are empowering communities by nurturing leadership, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

Our initiatives include:

  • Computer Training Workshops
  • Mentoring Programs
  • Digital Literacy Courses
  • Free Laptop and Device Distribution

Community Engagement and Personal Impact

Personal testimonials from students and volunteers enriched the presentation. These stories conveyed the profound impact of our programs. Students described how computer learning transformed their educational and professional aspirations. Volunteers spoke of the rewarding experience of contributing to a meaningful cause.

Challenges and Sustainability

Founder Sylvester Renner acknowledged the logistical and financial challenges in sustaining these efforts. Maintaining computer labs, training teachers, and ensuring continued operation require consistent funding and support. He stressed the importance of long-term commitment and community involvement to keep these projects alive and effective.

Expanding Reach and Future Plans

We are collaborating with local schools and international donors to expand their reach. In the future, we aim to include AI and advanced technologies in our curriculum. Current projects include setting up new training centers and developing sustainable models for educational outreach.

Call to Action

We welcome financial support and donations of equipment such as laptops and tablets.

Conclusion

We exemplify how strategic education and technology initiatives can uplift communities. Focusing on immediate training and sustainable development, we offer a powerful model for grassroots digital empowerment in underserved regions.

About SLINT
Sierra Leoneans in Technology (SLinT) is a non-profit organization founded by a group of Sierra Leoneans in the technology industry. They came together to collaborate, network, and support one another, recognizing the need for greater opportunities and resources in the technology sector in Sierra Leone.

As the organization grew, more Sierra Leoneans became involved in its activities, including development, mentoring, and advocacy for using technology to promote social and economic development in Sierra Leone. Driven by its mission to promote technological advancement and social responsibility, SLinT established itself as a leading voice in the technology community, thanks in large part to the dedication and vision of its founding members.

In Steve Jobs's words, “Technology is nothing. What’s important is that you have faith in people, that they’re good and smart, and if you give them tools, they’ll do wonderful things with them.” This sentiment is at the heart of SLinT’s mission to empower Sierra Leoneans to leverage technology to create positive change in their communities.

Today, SLinT continues to expand its reach and impact, attracting a diverse range of individuals, businesses, and organizations who share its vision. Through its initiatives, events, and partnerships, SLinT aims to create a more equitable and prosperous future for Sierra Leoneans by leveraging the power of technology.
