Solar-Powered Lights End the Darkness

On August 21st, a strange phenomenon will take place on the face of the earth. The moon will pass between the sun and the earth causing darkness during the day for a brief period, across the United States. All of North America will be able to see a partial eclipse.   Read more...

Eclipse

In other parts of the world however, eclipse might not be as fascinating as it is in the United States - maybe because of their familiarity with darkness.

Many families in Africa are familiar with darkness and live in darkness at night. This is simply because they are not connected to the electricity grid. The kids study at night with hazardous kerosene lanterns that are a health and fire hazard.

As we focus on and learn about the solar eclipse, please take a moment to remember the plight of the children and families who dwell in darkness every night. Then take a step further.Help us shine a light in this darkness by providing solar-powered lights.

Fewer than 1 in 10 people in Sierra Leone have access to electricity according to the 2015 Africa Progress Report

                We need  YOUR help  today
to make the eclipse temporary in Sierra Leone too.

Make a Difference Today: Donate to the Year of the Pencil Campaign

On November 20th, this movement placed over 100,000 pencils into the hands

of children across Sierra Leone in 20 schools.

Each pencil tells a story — of hope, opportunity, and possibility.

Education is more than lessons — it’s liberation.

Every $25 helps children write their dreams.
