SolarBuddy Lights Up Learning at REC Primary School, Bathurst
Every SolarBuddy light begins a journey—one that ends with a child gaining a brighter opportunity to learn.
That journey recently led to REC Primary School, Bathurst, Sierra Leone, where students received SolarBuddy solar study lights through the partnership between SolarBuddy and Develop Africa.

The distribution brought excitement across the school as students gathered to receive lights that will help them continue learning after sunset. For many families, unreliable electricity can make it difficult for children to study in the evenings. These solar-powered lights provide a safe, dependable source of light for reading, completing homework, and preparing for class.
Throughout the event, students shared how they plan to use their new lights. Many expressed their excitement about being able to study at home, complete homework after dark, and improve their learning opportunities.
One Class 5 pupil spoke on behalf of the school, saying:
"We say thank you for the SolarBuddy light because they have given us the opportunity to study and do homework at home at night."
Teachers also expressed their appreciation, recognizing how access to reliable lighting can support students' education beyond the classroom.
The distribution concluded with students and teachers joining together in a heartfelt message of gratitude:
"Thank you, SolarBuddy. We love you!"
Every solar light delivered represents more than a practical gift. It represents hope, opportunity, and another step toward helping children reach their full potential.
Develop Africa is grateful to SolarBuddy for partnering with us to bring safe, reliable lighting to students across Sierra Leone. Together, we are helping children learn, dream, and thrive.
