As told by Heather K.

My sons, Benjamin & Zachary, spearheaded a jersey donation drive in Tenafly, NJ.

The family had a lot of fun creating the logo for JERSEY BOYZ and making flyers that were shared on social media in February / March 2024.

The boys created this initiative due to the immense number of town recreational sports jerseys distributed every season to the participating residents for the various town sports offered…starting from Kindergarten to middle school. Each year, the kids outgrow their uniforms, change sports, or land on a different team, so these uniforms tend to build up in everyone’s closets!

Before we were introduced to Develop Africa, we initially thought we would share the donated jerseys/uniforms to less fortunate communities in and around New Jersey. We found this challenging as many sports programs are sponsored by local businesses that provide t-shirts.

We were super excited when we found out from our friend Beth that schools in Africa were looking for this type of donation.  We are excited to know these boxes of clothing (and basketballs) will make their way into the hands of teams of children and program leaders in Sierra Leone!!!

We would love to see the children in action on the fields and courts sporting Tenafly Tigers gear!  Who knew that TIGER PRIDE (as we say in Tenafly) would end up in Africa!

Hopefully, one day, we can go to Sierra Leone and meet the kids!

450+ units:

• Jerseys/tees: 355 (basketball [majority], baseball, soccer and lacrosse)
• Shorts: 70
• Baseball Hats: 15
• Basketballs (deflated): 20+
• 2 mesh basketball bags
