Volunteers Share Their Year of the Pencil Experience

The Year of the Pencil Campaign marked a shared commitment to improve access to education and learning tools for children in Sierra Leone.

At the launch of the campaign, Sylvester donated three desktop computers to the Freetown City Council, supporting local capacity and reinforcing the importance of digital access alongside basic school supplies.

This video highlights the role of volunteers who helped make the Year of the Pencil Campaign possible. Their voices reflect the effort, care, and purpose behind the work—showing how collective action turns simple tools into real opportunities for children.

You will hear volunteers speak about why pencils still matter, what they witnessed on the ground, and how access to basic learning materials changes classroom experiences and student confidence.

The Year of the Pencil Campaign is not about supplies alone. It is about removing barriers, restoring dignity in learning, and giving children a fair start in school.

If these stories resonate with you, consider supporting Develop Africa’s education programs or sharing this video to help extend its reach. Your support helps create lasting impact in communities that need it most.

Make a Difference Today: Donate to the Year of the Pencil Campaign

On November 20th, this movement placed over 100,000 pencils into the hands

of children across Sierra Leone in 20 schools.

Each pencil tells a story — of hope, opportunity, and possibility.

Education is more than lessons — it’s liberation.

Every $25 helps children write their dreams.
