I just returned from a field trip to Sierra Leone where I had the opportunity to visit with a number of families in the Wellington suburb of Freetown.  The community came out in full force to greet Phillip (my fellow traveler) and I.
 

Empowering for the Marketplace: Computer Proficiency Training Helps Beneficiary Get a Job

We are delighted to share with you a brief thank you video clip from Kumba, one of the computer training beneficiaries.  Prior to the training, Kumba did not have the computer skills / proficiency required for getting her desired job. She had received the needed training for her field, but lacked the computer proficiency needed.

Meet Mary - A Microfinance Beneficiary

Madam Mary R. is a single parent and she struggles to feed and educate her three children (2 boys, 1 girl),one in the university and two in high school. In addition to her three children Mary also has two wards. The responsibility of her family including school costs of books, school fees, uniforms, etc. rests squarely on Mary. She gets occasional assistance from her sister, but this is not enough to meet the daily needs of her family. Though a civil servant (a third grade clerk) Mary’s salary, which is less than $100 a month is pitifully insufficient to maintain her family.

Books and School Supplies Sent to Liberia

Develop Africa recently received a report and photos from Liberia - showing two schools that benefitted from the books and school supplies we sent.

Microfinance Gift By Young Entrepreneurs Club Provides Sewing Machine

Develop Africa frequently has the opportunity to work with exemplary individuals and groups.  One of them, the Young Entrepreneurs Club at Silver Creek High School decided to help provide funds for a microfinance loan.  The Sierra Leonean team selected a woman called Mariatu who lives in the Wellington community of Freetown, Sierra Leone as the recipient.

Handing Over of 3 Computer Labs in Cameroon - Partnership Project with HINT, Cameroon

Thanks to your support, this week in partnership with Helps INTernational (HINT) Cameroon, 3 computer labs were handed over to schools.  Develop Africa helped recruit 2 volunteers - Brandon Turner and Robert Arlt - and sent supporting funds.  Thanks for your on-going support that is making all this and more possible.  View photos
