35 Flood Affected Students Received Computer Training

Your on-going support is greatly appreciated and continues to bring support to flood victims in Freetown.   Many families in Sierra Leone were displaced due to the flooding and mudslide disaster that took place in August of 2017.   Your support helped 35 students receive six months of computer training including Microsoft Office- Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint. Proficiency in computers is necessary for success in today's technology-driven society and the 35 students that received computer training are very thankful to YOU.

Sylvester Visits Baptist Vocational Training Center

Your ongoing support has helped multiple vocational trainees at the Baptist Vocational Training Center. On Friday, June 7, 2019, Sylvester Renner, President of Develop Africa, visited the Baptist Vocational Training Center. 

Sylvester was warmly received by the trainees. When speaking to the trainees, he encouraged them to do their best to develop their skills as this was a path toward self-sufficiency.  A short video from Sylvester’s visit can be seen here.   

Sylvester Visits with Sierra Leone Artist

Your generous support is greatly appreciated as small businesses continue to receive microfinance loans to help start or grow their businesses.   During his June 2019 visit to Sierra Leone, Sylvester had the opportunity to meet with Sahr, a talented artist in Sierra Leone.  Sylvester provided Sahr with a range of art supplies as shown in the photo.  Sahr is very thankful for the support he has received as he expresses in this video.

Sylvester Visits Success Tall Academy in Freetown

In June 2019, Sylvester Renner, President of Develop Africa, had the opportunity to visit the Success Tall Academy Nursery and Preparatory School in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The school is located at the Western part of Freetown, off Old School, Hill Station - Hill Top.  The community is a deprived one. The school was opened to help in nation-building by providing a learning environment for deprived kids.

Reforestation in Sierra Leone - Sustainable Development Goal #13

The 13th Sustainable Development Goal is to take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.  In Sierra Leone, the serious and accelerating rate of deforestation is not only threatening biodiversity and ecosystem balance in the country but is also contributing to global climate change. In Freetown, the run-off water from the surrounding hills results in flooding and loss of property each year.

Why Nets are Important = Prevention is Better than Cure

We appreciate your continued support that is providing long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) to families and individuals, like Francess, in Sierra Leone. Bed nets are an effective way to protect families while they sleep at night from Malaria.
