Thanks to your ongoing support, more young women are getting their education.  Konnie and Janet received scholarships and are both very thankful for the support they received for school this year.

Konnie is finishing her second year of Junior Secondary School (JSS2) this spring and hopes to become a teacher when she completes her education.

Janet is finishing her 6th grade (class 6) year this spring and hopes to become a nurse when she grows up.

Sending School Supplies to Support Education - Sierra Leone

Last Monday, May 21, Develop Africa shipped out from Tennessee to Sierra Leone 21 drums, stuffed full, with a wide range of school supplies. This shipment is part of Develop Africa’s on-going commitment to supporting the education of children in Africa. These supplies will enable and reinforce learning. They will be distributed free to kids and schools in Sierra Leone. The supplies were donated by a wide range of individuals, groups, schools, organizations, and companies globally – sent to Develop Africa’s office in Tennessee.

School Supplies Have Arrived in Liberia

Thanks in part to your donations, we were able to ship four drums full of much-needed school supplies to children in Liberia. The average classroom in Liberia does not have adequate school supplies and the four drums they received will boost and support education. These supplies will elevate the quality of education and learning in schools. Your support helped us send these supplies to the children in Liberia that desperately needed them.

Your Support Helped the Kanu Family

Many families in Sierra Leone were displaced due to the flooding and mudslide disaster that took place on August 14, 2017.  We are deeply grateful for your on-going support that is enabling us to continue to bring hope to flood victims in Freetown.

Cameroon Students are Enjoying School Activities

Thanks in part to your generous donations the students at Bitame Lucia Nursery and Primary School (BLIS) have had a very enjoyable second half of their school year.

On March 28, the secondary school students had their first ever social. There were lots of activities including sugar race, bag race, blind shooting, relay running, singing, dancing and ballet. The day ended with awards for the winners and light refreshments.

Balanced Meals Make School Easier

We appreciate your support that is helping provide nutritious school meals for children living in a slum in Lagos, Nigeria. Their parents cannot afford to feed them a balanced diet and so they are malnourished. They fend for themselves and often quit school to join their parents in seeking food and ways to survive. Dreams from the Slum is a unique educational center designed to properly meet the needs of children living in the slum. Thanks to your generosity the educational center was able to purchase seven cartons of noodles, two cartons of juice and four large cans of tomatoes.

Microfinance Support Makes a Difference

Your continued support is empowering small businesses. Our microfinance or microcredit loans give individuals a helping hand to get their businesses going or to help them grow their existing businesses.   Katimu is one of the small business owners that recently benefited from a microfinance loan.

In this video, she expresses her gratitude for the microfinance loan that will help her start her business.

Future Leaders in Training

Your continued support is enabling students, like Saffie and Mohamed, to complete their education. Saffie received financial support and school supplies for class 5 (or 5th grade).  She enjoys social studies and hopes to become a nurse when she grows up.   Mohamed, who is also in class 5,  received financial support and school supplies for this school year as well.  His favorite subject is mathematics and he hopes to become a teacher when he grows up.

Getting Ready to Ship The Computers

Thanks so much for your support which helped us purchase the Rasberry Pi 3 computers.  You can see some of the computers and one of them in operation in the included photos.

We are in the process of doing some software updates before shipping them out. This will include some software from the Web Unplugged site - http://oer2go.org.

We are extremely grateful to two volunteers who have worked on this project. They have been amazing.
