Working to Reverse Deforestation One Tree at a Time

Thank you for your support in our ongoing efforts to reverse deforestation in Freetown, Sierra Leone. It is currently the dry season in Freetown so the next set of seedlings will not be planted until mid-May. We have targeted areas that can be seen in the photos below.

Sarah is Thankful for the Microfinance Support

Your support has helped Sarah grow her business. With the microfinance loan she received, she is now selling fast food and is supporting her family.  In the video, she tells us

Hi, my name is Sarah and I am one of the beneficiaries of Develop Africa microfinance loan. I have been part of the scheme for one year now. I was in the provision business, but I changed to fast food  because it is growing faster than the coal and provision business

Nutritious Meals for Families in Need

Many families live in extreme poverty in Freetown.  Thanks to your support Marion, a struggling young mom, was provided with a range of items including two dozen eggs, two boxes of cornflakes, a tin of Ovaltine, sugar, two rolls of milk and some funds to cover other needs such as rice.

School made possible by your support

Poverty prevents millions of Nigerian youths from going to college. Thanks to your generous support a scholarship was awarded to Chiamaka through our partner organization in Nigeria, S.M.I.L.E.

She tells us in her own words how much this scholarship meant to her.

Momoh is Moving Forward

While the funds raised were not enough for Momoh to purchase a taxi cab, he is thankful for the support he has received and is moving forward with his small business venture.   His goal is to be able to purchase, register and insure a taxi cab. He will then use the proceeds from his taxi service to support his family.

Malaria Tests Make a Difference

hanks to your donations we were able to provide more malaria tests to children in Sierra Leone. While mosquito bed nets provide very effective protection against malaria during the night, they do not protect children from exposure to mosquitoes in the early evening (before bedtime) when mosquitoes are active. Malaria causes unnecessary sickness, hospitalization, and deaths which can easily be prevented.

Vocational Training is Making Futures Better

Your ongoing support has helped multiple vocational trainees at the Baptist Women’s Vocational Training Center.  There are currently 50 trainees at the Center and each student is working hard to create a better future for themselves and their families.

Every Bed Net Distributed is Saving Lives

Malaria is one of the leading causes of child death in Africa. Bed nets are one of the main prevention measures that are used to combat malaria; because they have been treated with safe, residual insecticide that is used to block, kill and repel mosquitoes. Thanks in part to your support, life-saving bed nets are continuing to be distributed in Sierra Leone.
